About the Author

“We need a new definition of malnutrition. Malnutrition means under- and over-nutrition. Malnutrition means emaciated and obese.”
  - Catherine Bertini, Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme from 1992 to 2002.

Meredith began her career as a dietitian after first obtaining a degree in art and theatre. Returning to school to complete an undergraduate and graduate degree in nutrition as well as a dietetic internship, Meredith began practicing at a Level I Trauma Center in Northeast Tennessee. While in Tennessee, Meredith gained experience as the bariatric dietitian and re-vitalized the nutrition education and counseling aspects of the bariatric surgery program.

Gaining an interest in nutrition support, Meredith went on to earn a certification as a Certified Nutrition Support Clinician within her first year of practice. She then moved to the DMV area where she currently practices clinical nutrition in the hospital setting.

Outside of her work at the hospital, Meredith writes on food and nutrition topics for companies such as BlueCross BlueShield. She is active in her community and local 4-H programs. Meredith is also an avid potter and works as a local member of a studio.
